Giants Streaks – Bad News, Good News And Overall Perspective

The Bad News

Daniel Jones has two games without a passing touchdown. One more and he will tie Eli Manning who had a three game streak. The longest Giant streak for a QB that had 20 pass attempts in a game and zero passing touchdowns is four. That is shared by Scott Brunner and Craig Morton.

The Giants active streak of four losses is only 28th in all time longest losing streak among Giant teams. Last year’s nine game streak is in a three way tie for longest in Giant history. The current active streak is in a three way tie for second longest active streak in the league. Only the Vikings lead with five consecutive regular season losses.

The Good News

Blake Martinez has two consecutive games with a sack. There are only three players in the league with a longer active streak. If Martinez gets a sack this weekend he is tie for second among active streaks. Michael Strahan leads all Giants since 1950 with a 7 game streak with a sack.

Daniel Jones has a four game active streak of rushing for 20+ yards with a minimum 12+ pass attempts. Only Russell Wilson with 6 games and Lamar Jackson with 18 have longer active streaks. Jeff Hostetler holds the Giant record with seven games. Daniel Jones is second among all time Giants.

Golden Tate has  an active streak of four games with five receptions which is in a three way tie for fourth among active streaks. It is tie for seventeenth among all-time Giants. Beckham leads all time Giants with a streak of 15 games.

The Giants are one of only nine teams with an active streak of sacking the opponent 2+ times for 3 consecutive games. The 2010-2011 Super Bowl team leads all Giants teams with a 16 game streak.

Things Ar Not As Bad As They Seem

Our opponent the Rams had the most recent longest losing streak in NFL history.  The Rams were  .500 or less for 13 consecutive seasons. That streak finally broke in 2017 when they went 11-5 and lost in the wildcard round. The next season they were in the Super Bowl. The worst such streak for the Giants was 10 seasons from 1971-1980. The current Giant woes are no way near the magnitude of those teams. The last decade saw the Giants with two streaks of only three seasons each of .500 or less. That was preceded by a twelve years of three Super Bowl appearances with two Super Bowl wins.
