Success Rate of Trading Up For A Quarterback

With discussions about the Giants possibly trading up for a quarterback to replace Daniel Jones, I take look at teams that have traded up over the last ten years on day one or two for a quarterback. In the table the yellow coded teams had non-winning records the season before the draft. The green coded teams had a winning record. The yellow coded quarterbacks drafted did not have success with their draft team. The green coded quarterbacks did. Two are light color coded green as it is too soon to tell of their success.

Over the lasts ten years there has been 0% success with drafted quarterbacks among non-winning teams that traded up for the quarterback on day one or two of the draft. Whereas teams with a  winning record that traded up had a 71% success rate with their quarterback.  I did not look at trades on day three as there is usually not a lot of draft capital involved.

The only quarterbacks counted as not successes that could be in question would be Jared Goff and Carson Wentz. However Carson Wentz moved on from the Eagles and never played in the post season of that Super Bowl run. Jared Goff made it to the Super Bowl with the Rams but lost 13-3. After two more seasons he was traded to the Lions. So I count them as not achieving the success expected with their team for round one number 1 and 2 picks.
