Forty Days, Forty Times and Giant Athletes

Forty days to the unofficial start of the 2020 NFL season with the first preseason games. Speaking of forty did you know that Darius Slayton has the fastest combine forty yard dash of current Giants that were drafted by the Giants. His 4.39 is ninth fastest among all Giant draft picks since 2000. Darius Slayton also has the best broad jump of all Giants that were drafted since 2000 and the sixth best vertical jump. All these event results depict a physically explosive player which matches up with his game in 2019, Slayton caught three jump balls for touchdowns in his rookie year.

In the forty coming in right after Slayton with the tenth fastest forty by a Giants draft pick is Saquon Barkley. In 2018 Barkley had the second fastest forty that year among running backs.In the 2019 season Barkley made two appearances on a list of the 10 fastest runs from the 2019 NFL season. At number six on that list was a 68 yard touchdown run by Barkley that was timed at a top speed of 21.89 mph. Then at the ninth spot was a 59 yard rush clocked at a top speed of 21.76 mph. The only other player to make the list twice was Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman at seventh and tenth. Per FFF, his 30 total pressures on the year were tied for the most among first-year players at the position.

Sterling Shepard is tie for the combine second best vertical jump among Giant draftees since 2000. His 41″ is tops among giant draftees wide receivers. Shepard’s 20 reps on the bench press is second best among Giant draftees wide receivers since 2000.Shepard made the 2016 PFWA All Rookie Team.

Evan Engram is thirteenth among all Giant draftees since 2000 in the combine forty, He is first among Giant draftee tight ends. No bigger (size or weight) Giant draftee ran a faster forty at the combine since 2000. His 125″ broad jump is eleventh and first among tight ends among the Giant draftees. Evan Engram made the 2017 PFWA All Rookie Team.

At 6’7″ Matt Peart is the tallest Giant measured at the combine since 2000. His 5.06 forty time is the second best among Giant offensive linemen since 2000. Peart’s 113 broad jump is the best among Giant offensive linemen since 2000.
