Sixty Six Days to the Unofficial Start of The 2020 Season

Sixty-Six  days to the unofficial start of the 2020 NFL season with the Hall of Fame Game on August 6th. The number 66 is the draft pick used to select outside linebacker Lorenzo Carter in the 2018 draft. Carter is one of only three players from the 2018 draft class to have two year career totals of

  1. Sacks >= 8.5,
  2. QB Hits >= 23,
  3. Tackles Solo >= 55 and
  4. Tackles For Loss >= 13.

The three players were selected in the draft in the following order

  1. Bradley Chubb – 1st round (5th overall)
  2. Harold Landry – 2nd round (41st overall)
  3. Lorenzo Carter – 3 rd round (66th overall)

Gettleman admitted he tried to trade up to get Carter when he saw him fall. Carter was scouted by some as a late first-round or second-round selection. That trade did not happen and they got Carter at 66.

Carter has great speed. At his 2018 combine his 4.5 second forty time was third best among defensive linemen and linebackers, as was his broad jump of 130″.  Both drills are seen as important drills for smaller edge rushers.
