Three Round Mock Draft with Giants Team Pick Briefs

Here is a three round mock with specific attention to the Giants picks.

Round 1

1 JAX Kayvon Thibodeaux Edge
2 DET Aidan Hutchinson Edge
3 HOU Ikem Ekwonu OT
4 NYJ Kyle Hamilton S
5 NYG Evan Neal OT

At 6-7 and 351 lbs, Evan Neal would be the biggest Giant on the team. Yet his is incredibly athletic. He made Matt Feldman’s 2021 College Football Freaks List as number one. This is a big man that can move nimbly. He has a great work ethic and drive to be the best he can be. It is said that he is a perfectionist. In his 15 starts at left tackle in 2021, Neal had six games he was perfect in pass protection and he had a team-high total of 34 knockdown blocks. Over his last two seasons at tackle, he allowed only 22 quarterback pressures — fewer than one per game on average.

6 CAR Ahmad Gardner CB
7 NYG George Karlaftis Edge

In 2019 as a freshman Karlaftis made the FWAA Freshman All America Team. Karlaftis had the third most sacks per game among freshman players. He recorded 55 total quarterback pressures on the year, the most by any freshman defender. In 2020 despite only playing in three games due to injury and Covid, Karlaftis had two sacks and made the 2020 All Big Ten Coaches Second Team. In 2021 Karlaftis had the second highest Pass-rush win-rate (23.6%) and Total Pressures (54) among the top five edge rushers projected as round one picks. Hutchinson was first with a 24.8% win rate and 74 total pressures. Karlaftis displays an excellent motor and gives relentless effort. He has an obsession with football and continuously strives to be the best player he can be. Karlaftis was number 7 on Feldman’s Freaks list and is incredibly fast for a 6’4” 275 lb player. His hand usage to beat blocks is exceptional and he studies mixed martial arts to help perfect it.

34 DET Desmond Ridder QB
35 NYJ Trey McBride TE
36 NYG Trent McDuffie CB

Trent McDuffie allowed only 111 yards on 36 targets in his direction during the 2021 season. His average of 3.1 yards allowed per target was the best among the 239 Power-5 cornerbacks who faced at least 20 targets. According to Pro Football Focus, McDuffie didn’t allow more than 39 yards in coverage in any game this season and hasn’t allowed a touchdown since 2019.   McDuffie is an outstanding athlete with a track background. McDuffie posted a 41.5 inch vertical during UW’s summer combine. That would tie for 14th in the combine results from 2016-2020 among all players. He also was No. 40 on Bruce Feldman’s Freaks list.  At 5’11” McDuffie could slide down a little in the draft and would be a steal at the top of round 2.

67 NYG Jalen Tolbert WR

Among active career leaders Tolbert is third in yards per reception (17.6 yards) and sixth in receiving yards (3,140 yards). In 2021 Tolbert showed his proclivity for the big play as he was was 9th in 10+ yard receptions, 6th in 20+ yards, tie for 1st in 30+ yards and 1st in 40+ yards. In 2021 Tolbert was third in receiving yards per game and nine of his twelve games had 94+ receiving yards. In 2021 he had an incredible 47% team market share receiving yards. A thirty percent team market share is indicative of a Pro-Bowl player. Tolbert was one of the best if not the best receiver at the week of the Senior Bowl. Scouts were impressed with his incredible ability to create separation from his defenders, reliability to make contested catches, and his speed. His speed at the snap of the football, his elusive running after catching the ball, and his ability to break tackles for extra yardage were also the topics of huge praise throughout the Senior Bowl experience. (247sports.com). Tolbert’s a high effort guy on blocking and shows the toughness to make catches with defenders draped all over him.

As a redshirt freshman Smith made the 2020 FWAA Freshman All-American Team and the 2020 All AAC First Team. In 2021 he made the 2021 All AAC Second Team. He is a physically dominating player and has been described by draftnetwork.com as a road grader, mauler and interior mover. He plays with a nasty streak punishing defense players. His technique needs some development as he is a raw player. Smith will turn just 21 years old in April. He’s still incredibly young and is only scratching the surface of what he can do.
