Giants week of 7/20 And Markus Golden

This week is a big week for the NFL and for the Giants. Rookies and quarterbacks report to camp this week. The Giants have scheduled Thursday July 23rd as the date for both to report. In addition this week on Wednesday July 22nd if OLB Markus Golden does not sign with another team he will be a Giant for the 2020 season.

Last season the Giants were fourteenth in the league in pressure percentage on opposing quarterbacks with a 23.7%. That is not bad and a large part of the was due to Markus Golden. Golden was ninth in the league with 44 pressures, 15th in sacks with 10, eighth with 14 quarterback knockdowns and 14th in quarterback hurries with 16. All of those statistics were tops on the Giant team.

Golden came on strong in the last quarter of the season. His ten quarterback hits was third best in the league over weeks 14 to 17, His season sacks to quarterback hits ratio of 37% is a good percentage. As reported in this 2017 ESPN article over the past five years, regular pass-rushers  have turned about 43 percent of their knockdowns into sacks. A percentage that is too high or low generally forebodes a switch in the opposite direction the following season.

Here is hope that the Giant camp opens without major incident related to the virus and that Markus Golden signed with the Giants.
