My All Giant Pro Bowl Team

The NFL Pro Bowl voting is under way and you can vote at Pro Bowl Ballot. The Giants with a 3-7 record may not get many Pro Bowl votes. Here I put together my 2020 All Giant Pro Bowl Team.

Offense

Sterling Shepard is one of 21 players with zero drops this season and he has the fifth most targets in that group. His 81% catch percentage is sixth best among league wide receivers and 11% better than the next highest Giant. He has 40.5% of his targets make first down. Sixty-two percent of his third down targets make first down. That is tenth best in the league for players with 10+ third down targets and best on the Giants.Since 1994 the only Giant wide receiver with over 35 targets who had a higher 3rd down conversion percent was Steve Smith. Sterling Shepard was on the 2016 NFL All-Rookie Team.

In 2020,Darius Slayton leads the Giants in first downs per target with 46.9% of his targets achieving first down for players with over 7 targets. That percentage is twentieth in the league among the 71 players with over forty targets. Since 1989, Darius Slayton ranks second among Giant wide receivers in career first downs per target for players with 10+ first downs. Sterling Shepard is fourth.

Offensive lineman Matt Peart has only been in on 107 snaps or 16% of the offensive snaps but he is Pro Football Focus’ highest graded Giant offensive lineman in 2020 with an 80 grade.

Guard Kevin Zeitler has had a solid season at guard. As of the start of November he had not allowed a single quarterback hit. Zeitler is a veteran leader on a young offensive line.

There are only 17 quarterbacks all-time that in their first 22 starts had a 61% pass completion percentage, 5,100 passing yards, a passer rating of 81 an d 31 passing touchdowns. Daniel Jones is one of them. Of those 17 quarterbacks Daniel Jones has the highest rushing yards per attempt and the third most rushing yards. The 17 quarterbacks include among others – Dan Marino, Kurt Warner, Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers, Deshaun Watson and Tony Romo.

Defense

Leonard Williams has 16 quarterback hits this season. That is tie for third most among defensive tackles. His 20 pressures is tie for fourth in the league among defensive tackles. He has five sacks which is tie for second among defensive tackles. William’s eleven quarterback knockdowns is tie for first among defensive tackles.

James Bradberry ranks 22nd among cornerbacks in passer rating allowed when targeted. Bradberry was named to PFF’s season first quarter All Pro First Team. He is tie for second in the league in passes defended and is one of only 19 players to have three or more interceptions for the season. The Giants are one of nine teams that have two defensive backs with allowing a passer rating of 75 or less when targeted. The 2020 league average passer rating is 94.2, They are eighth in least passing touchdowns allowed. The Giants are fourth in passes defended.

Blake Martinez is sixth among linebackers in solo tackles and tie for fourth among all players in total tackles. Through the first ten games of a season Martinez leads all Giant players since 1987 in total tackles. Since 1994 his solo tackles this season ranks as  the sixth best season by a Giant linebacker. Through 10 weeks, Martinez has made 41 stops.

Safety Logan Ryan ranks tenth in the league among safeties in passer rating allowed when targeted with a 75. His 60% completion percentage allowed is fifteenth among safeties in the league. Ryan has been in on 94% of the defensive snaps and has allowed only one touchdown. Ran is second on the team in passes defended with seven. He leads the team in forced fumbles with two. Ryan also has one sack and four quarterback hits.

Carter Coughlin has been in on only 14 defensive snaps but has had one sack, one pressure, one quarterback hit and one tackle for loss. His one sack was on quarterback Tom Brady. Pro Football Focus has him rated at 75.2. He is having a good rookie season and may be the best 7th round draft pick by the Giants since Ahmad Bradshaw in 2007.

Dexter Lawrence is one of only two 2020 second year defensive linemen that in their first 26 games have had fifteen quarterback hits, five sacks, five tackles for loss and forty solo tackles. He joins only 26 active defensive linemen that accomplished that feat in their first 26 games. He is one of  only four Giant defensive lineman to accomplish that since 2006. Pro Football Focus ranks Dexter Lawrence as 16th among 126 defensive linemen for the 2020 season. Dexter Lawrence made the 2019 NFL All Rookie Team.

Special Teams

Kicker Graham Gano‘s 95.5 percentage on field goal attempts is fifth in the league for over five attempts. He has made 21 of 22 field goal attempts and all extra points.

There you have it – my picks for Giants having a Pro Bowl season. Remember Vote early and often. Pro Bowl Voting ends December 13th.

The Giants should win this Sunday against the Bengals. The Bengals have lost quarterback Joe Burrow for the season and their lead rusher, Joe Mixon, is on injured reserve. The Giants are relatively healthy and are coming off a bye week. Defensively the Giants look better on paper. They lead the Bengals in defensive turnover percent, yards per play allowed, pressure percentage and rushing yards per attempt allowed. The Bengals have some very good receivers in Tyler Boyd, Tee Higgins and A.J. Green. Look for the Giants to bring pressure early and see how Brandon Allen reacts.

The Giants are right in the thick of the NFC East division race. A win on Sunday would put them in first place with an Eagles loss to the Seahawks on Monday. Go Giants! Enjoy the game!
